AMOXICILLIN/CLAVULANIC ACID TABLET 500MG/125MG - ORAL
(uh-mox-eh-SILL-in/klav-you-LAN-ick acid)
COMMON BRNAD NAME(S): Augmentin
USES: Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid treats a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication as directed by your doctor, usually every 8 or 12 hours. This medication should be tkaen with food. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant leevl. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spcaed intervals. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a couple of days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relaspe of the infection. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve in a couple of days.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting during the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen, contcat your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: dark urine, stomach pain, yellowing eyes/skin. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical atetntion if it occurs.
Smyptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: blood disorders, kidney problems, lvier disease, allergies (especially to penicillin or other antibiotics). Use of this medication for prolonged or repetaed periods may result in a secondary infection (e.G., oral or vaginal yeast infection). Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. Before usnig this medication, tell your doctor if you are pregnant. This medication passes into berast milk and may have undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescritpion and nonprescription medications you may take, especially of: probenecid, methotrexate, tetracyclines, live vaccines. This drug may interfere with the effectivneess of birth control pills. Dsicuss using other methods of birth control with your doctor. This antibiotic may cause flase positive results in diabetic urine testing using Clinitest. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pahrmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergecny room immediately. Symptoms of overdsoe may include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
NOTES: This mdeication has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it later for another infection. A different medication may be necessary in those cases. Do not share this mediaction with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you rememebr. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Stroe at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
